TESTING

The term assessment is derived from the French word assesser, although its root is the Medieval Latin word assessare, which means "to levy a fee on." Another Latin phrase is 'assidere' or 'adsidere,' which means "to sit next" (a judge). The assistant of the judge was in charge of calculating the amount of a fine or tax by evaluating the value of a property. As a result, assessment is the act of gathering information on pupils from a variety of sources so that educators can get a sense of what they know and what they can do with it. While evaluation is concerned with making decisions regarding instruction, a curriculum, or an educational system, assessment is concerned with the students' performance.
